As market volatility has eased after the mayhem of March, investors betting on a rocky economic recovery from the coronavirus crisis are buying shares of exchanges that are poised to profit if more turmoil ensues. The global exchange sector, which thrives in turbulent markets, has outperformed so far this year, falling only 2% in value compared with a 15% drop in world stocks, a Reuters analysis showed. Chi-X Australia wants the country's competition regulator to look into the implications of blockchain technology for share trading and to arbitrate disputes with the Australian Securities Exchange. The Australian markets operator has said it would replace its registry, settlement and clearing system with blockchain technology to cut costs for customers and is currently testing the platform. Chi-X Australia, which handles a fifth of all share trading volume in the country, on Wednesday raised concerns the switchover to blockchain technology would disadvantage it.
